VENDORS MARKET
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development encourages vendors, entrepreneurs and consumers to come out on Market Day. Vendors and other small business persons will operate from Probyn Street in the City every Friday and Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Food vendors must have the requisite health certification from the Ministry of Health. They must also travel with at least five gallons of water for the rinsing of hands. In instances where more than 100 vendors respond, additional space will be provided at the western side of Queen’s Park.

WEST INDIES FEDERATION LECTURE
The University of the West Indies in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture is hosting a mini-lecture series on the West Indies Federation during the month of November. The series includes a panel discussion on the topic, “Why did the Federation Fail?” It will take place at the Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination (EBCCI) on Tuesday, November 25 at 8:00 p.m. All are invited.

BGIS ESSAY & POSTER COMPETITION
The Barbados Government Information Service (BGIS) is encouraging aspiring writers and artists in 4th and 5th forms at secondary schools to participate in its Essay/Poster Competition. Essay writers will be required to submit one original essay between 750 and 1000 words on the topic, “How can I help my family reduce the cost of living?” BGIS will also give school children in class 2 -4 the opportunity to showcase their creativity through its poster competition. Students are required to design a colourful and interactive poster depicting the topic, “Ways to Reduce the Cost of Living”. Individual entries must be submitted through the contestant’s school. The National Independence Gala & Parade will be held on Saturday, November 29, 8 p.m. to Midnight at the Garrison Savannah. Witness a multimedia extravaganza and entertainment by local artistes followed by the traditional Independence Day Parade, and a Fireworks Display. OFFICER CADET UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP
The Barbados Defence Force (BDF) under its Officer Cadet University Scholarship Programme, is offering scholarships to Barbadian citizens.

The BDF will meet the cost of the applicant’s university fees, including tuition, library, identification card, student’s union/guild and registration and mandatory course books. For degrees being read overseas, the BDF will also cover the cost of accommodation and meals.

Applicants must be Barbadian citizens between the ages of 17 and 21 who are reading for a bachelor’s degree in a subject of relevance to the BDF.

Persons applying for the scholarship must be enrolled for full time study at the university and must be willing to serve as commissioned officers in the Force .The successful candidate must also sign a bond to serve for six years after the date of the end of the degree programme.

Applications should be submitted to the Chief of Staff, Headquarters, Barbados Defence Force, St. Ann’s Fort, Garrison, St. Michael. For further details, contact the Barbados Defence Force at 436-6185.

The Community Development Department will be conducting a food preservation and preparation course at the Harold Nurse Community Centre, Friendship, St Michael beginning November 24.

The course is open to anyone who is interested in developing a marketable skill to generate income and employment.
